Ring rolling

Description of the technology

Ring rolling is a process that produces seamless rings by hot rolling a cast ingot that has been perforated to increase its diameter. The structure of the rings is perfectly homogeneous.

The process consists of four stages.

  1. The steel ingot is pitted to produce a round ingot with a hole.
  2. Once heated, the cast ingot is rotated between the inner roller, the outer roller, and the two conical rollers.
  3. The workpiece is compressed between the rollers so that its thickness is reduced in the radial direction. At the same time, its thickness in the axial direction is maintained by the action of the conical rollers. The combined action of the 4 rollers increases the diameter of the parts.
  4. The formed ring is ready for subsequent heat treatment and machining.
